The billhook is fine, except that it’s not sharp at all. I believe it was marketed as ”hand sharpened”, but it’s just very roughly shaped with a grinder. The bevel of the edge is way too blunt, even for a splitting axe it would have been too wide. As a result it doesn’t cut well at all, and there’s a terrible burr on one side of the edge.
I was expecting to do a bit of sharpening myself, but this is just way too much in my opinion. I’ll have to use a grinder extensively before I can switch to the sharpening stones.
I really think it’s a shame Rinaldi doesn’t put a little bit more effort into this. I imagine a lot of customers are just so disappointed that they will never buy another Rinaldi tool ever again, although the only real error is the sharpening. Apart from that it’s fine. But I fear a lot of people don’t realize that.
